The Bracken Table
Our story

A café built around a big kitchen table.

The Bracken Table opened in 2019 in a former ironmonger's on Bridge Gate. The long table down the middle came from a farmhouse clearance and gave the place its name.

Who's behind it

It's run by Maya and Sinead, who met working in restaurant kitchens in Leeds and wanted to do something slower and closer to home. Maya runs the kitchen, Sinead runs the front, and between them they've built a small team who mostly live within a mile of the door.

Neither of them wanted a formal restaurant. They wanted the kind of place they'd want to walk into on a Tuesday — unfussy, generous, and genuinely pleased to see you.

Where the food comes from

Local isn't a slogan here

Vegetables

From the weekly market on St George's Square and a smallholding in Cragg Vale. The menu follows what they've got.

Bread & flour

Sourdough and baps from a bakery in Mytholmroyd, delivered by bike most mornings.

Coffee

Roasted in Todmorden. We use a seasonal house blend and there's always a single-origin on the second grinder.

Dogs, boots and buggies

We're a few minutes from the canal and the start of half a dozen walks, so the café was always going to be muddy. That's fine. There's a water bowl and a jar of biscuits by the door, hooks for wet coats, and room for buggies at the far end.

If you've come off the tops and you're cold through, tell us — there's usually soup even if it's not on the board.

Come and sit down

We're open Tuesday to Sunday. No booking needed for a table of four or fewer — just turn up.
